Submitted by Mary Rankin

K-State construction science students Will Kiser, Patrick Houlehan, Ryan Lund, Garrett Crane and Jordan Heinen; and Todd Blackburn, architectural engineering, placed second in the design-build division of the 21st annual Construction Management Student Competition for Region IV of the Associated Schools of Construction.

Ray Buyle, assistant professor of architectural engineering and construction science, coached the team at the Oct. 23-26 event in Nebraska City, Neb. The annual competition involves 14 universities from seven states represented by Region IV. A total of 22 students from the department of architectural engineering and construction science competed, and in addition to Buyle, were coached by Jim Goddard, professor, and Katie Loughmiller, instructor, both architectural engineering and construction science.

Buyle also was appointed to a three-year term as design-build division regional coordinator beginning in 2014 for Region IV. Tom Logan, associate professor in the department, served as this year’s regional coordinator of the commercial division of the competition and Goddard of the highway/civil division.
