University, 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley to renew partnership

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Kansas State University and the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley will renew a partnership in an on-campus ceremony on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

Kirk Schulz, Kansas State University president, and Maj. Gen. Paul E. Funk II, 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley commanding general, will sign the partnership resolution at 4 p.m. in the Hagans Library on the second floor of the K-State Alumni Center. A social event will follow the signing from 5 to 6 p.m.

About 20 leaders from each institution will represent Kansas State University and the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley at the ceremony. The event marks the fourth partnership renewal since 2008. The partnership is the first and only military-to-university community partnership.

The formal institutional partnership between Kansas State University and the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley was first established by Jon Wefald, former president of Kansas State University, and Maj. Gen. Robert E. Durbin, former 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley commanding general, in April 2008. The agreement was designed to serve as a model military- to-university community partnership.
