K-State's Operation Military Kids has been awarded a U.S. Department of Defense grant to conduct two residential camps this summer for military-connected teens and families. Both camps will be at Rock Springs 4-H Center :

  • Aug. 8-10: Express Yourself teen camp
  • Aug. 17-18: Purple on the Prairie family camp

K-State students who are trained in military culture, resilience-building activities, and youth and family development will be leading the camp with faculty from the School of Family Studies and Human Services Extension in the College of Human Ecology.

Operation Military Kids just completed a day camp for 50 children at Fort Leavenworth. Co-sponsoring that camp was the Fort Leavenworth Child, Youth and School Services, and Leavenworth County 4-H Extension.

For more information or to register for the Operation Military Kids teen or family camps this August, contact: Jackie Cox, camp coordinator at cox1@k-state.edu or 785-532-1947; or Elaine Johannes, Kansas Operation Military Kids director and associate professor and extension specialist, at ejohanne@k-state.edu or 785-523-7720.
