Brian Kovar

Brian Kovar, instructor of management, has been honored by the Kansas State University office of assessment for his work in helping the College of Business Administration measure the level of information technology skills among the students and implement ways to improve them.

Kovar developed and refined the instrument used to assess student learning in the area of information technology. Since 2007 he has administered, analyzed and compiled the results to modify course content and initiate changes to how computer skills are taught in the classroom.

With the data he has collected, Kovar has developed a new course, Business Information Technology Skills Proficiency, in the college, which lets students achieve the information technology competencies that are necessary for a career in business.

“Through his contributions, Brian Kovar has improved the College of Business Administration’s assessment process, and clearly mapped a path for increasing student competencies,” said Richard Ott, accounting department head, chair of the college’s assessment committee and the person who nominated Kovar for the honor.

“I am proud to have worked hard to assure that our students’ technology skills match the needs of the workplace,” Kovar said.

Kovar earned a bachelor’s from Washburn University and a master’s in business administration from Oklahoma State University. He has been published in several journals including the Journal of Information Systems.
