Craig Morris to deliver Grain Science and Industry Distinguished Lecture

By Bhadriraju Subramanyam

The department of grain science and industry's first presentation in its Distinguished Lecture Series will feature Craig Morris, the director and supervisory research chemist at the USDA-ARS Western Wheat Quality Laboratory and editor-in-chief for the journal Cereal Chemistry, the flagship journal of the American Association of Cereal Chemists International.

His lecture will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, in the Hemisphere Room at Hale Library.

Morris earned his bachelor's in agronomy and seed science from Iowa State University and his master's and doctorate in agronomy from Kansas State University, focusing on pre-harvest sprouting in wheat.

In his role as director and supervisory research chemist, Morris supervises the breeding line evaluation and conducted directed research on wheat quality traits. He is an honorary research professor at the National Wheat Improvement Center in the Science and Research Institute at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Morris is the U.S. chair of the Joint Oversight Committee and is the U.S. Center director for the Sino-U.S. Centers for Wheat Quality and Pathology, which is co-located in his laboratory and at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Beijing.

He is a fellow of American Association of Cereal Chemists International, or AACCI, and a member of its Pacific Northwest Section. He also is a member of the Crop Science Society of America and American Society of Agronomy.
