Landscape architecture faculty, students present at Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture’s annual conference

Several landscape architecture faculty members and students from the College of Architecture, Planning and Design will be making presentations and participating on panels at the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture’s annual conference at the University of Texas-Austin March 27-30. Speaker and their presentation include:

  • Professor and department head Stephanie Rolley will present “Landscape Architecture Graduate Education in the Twenty-First Century.”
  • Visiting assistant professor Christopher Sass and professor Tim Keane, will present “Channel Change in Northeast Kansas Streams.”
  • Assistant professor Jessica Canfield and Bo Yang will present “Making A Case: Strategies for Developing Landscape Performance Case Studies.”
  • Assistant professor Katie Kingery-Page, associate professor Lorn Clement and Beach Museum exhibition designer Lindsay Smith, will present “Space, Form, and Art: A Landscape Architect's Framework for Public Art.”
  • Assistant professor Anne Beamish will present “American Vauxhall Gardens and the Emergence of Nightlife.”
  • Associate professor Lee Skabelund will present “Stormwater Runoff from a Small Integrated Green Roof System At Kansas State University: A Review of Data Gathered over Parts of Four Years.”
  • Jeremy Merrill, doctoral student; Assistant professor Sheryl Hodge and Rolley, will present “A Mixed Methods Approach to Studying Creativity in Design Students.”
  • Katie Burke, doctoral student, and Keane will present “Measuring Gully Erosion in Two Disturbed Midwestern Landscapes.”
  • Assistant professor Hyung Jim Kim will present “Do More Centrally Located Schools Promote Walking to School?: An Exploratory Study using the Closeness Centrality Index.” 
  • Student Peiwen Wang with Eric Bernard will present “GIS-Based Coupled Cellular Automaton Model to Determine Irrigated Agriculture Land Use in the High Plains Aquifer Region.”
  • Sass and visiting assistant professor Bryce Lawrence will present “Applying Ecological Footprint and Ecosystem Services Methods to Calculate Ecological Capacity and Demand at a Countrywide Scale.”
  • Canfield and assistant professor Huston Gibson will present “Bugs, Prairie Dogs, and Tranquility: Why Stapleton Residents Love Stormwater Parks.”

Panels include: 

  • Assistant professor Blake Belanger will serve on the panel, Achieving Excellence in Design Studio Teaching.
  • The panel, Confronting the Digital Divide, features work from assistant professor Jon Hunt's classes.
  • Assistant professor Katie Kingery-Page will serve on the panel, Exploratory Physiocartographies of Place and Time.
  • Belanger will serve on the panel, Igniting Creativity in the Design Studio: Ideas for Action.
  • Keane will serve on the panel, Defining and Valuing Research in Landscape Architecture.
