Leading the way: Schooley, Unruh new Kansas State University student leaders

Kansas State University students have elected Eli Schooley, senior in political science and pre-law, Clay Center, as student body president.

His running mate, Jacob Unruh, junior in finance, Manhattan, will serve as student body vice president.

"Being elected to serve is a dream come true, an honor and a humbling event all wrapped into one," Schooley said. "I've always sought to serve those around me and I can't wait to do that through this role."

Schooley and Unruh plan to start work immediately on implementing their platform issues, which are to establish a campuswide mentoring program, improve the university's teacher evaluation, or TEVAL, system and enhance mobility for all Kansas State University students.

Schooley is president of Blue Key senior honorary and a member of the university's Student Alumni Board.   He has served as president of FarmHouse fraternity and the Interfraternity Council, and chief of staff of the Student Governing Association. His honors, awards and scholarships include the Robert C. Byrd Scholar, Putnam Scholar, Quest freshman honorary, Greek Man of the Year and the Up and Coming Greek Leader of the Year. A 2009 graduate of Clay Center Community High School, Schooley is the son of Jon and Marcy Schooley, Clay Center. 

Unruh is a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He has served as a student senator and local relations director for the Student Governing Association president's cabinet, historian for Alpha Tau Omega and president of the K-State Student Union's Union Governing Board and Union Corporation Board. In addition, he is an intern for the Student Alumni Board. His honors, awards and scholarships include the Mortar Board Outstanding Junior Award and Blue Key Outstanding Sophomore Award. A 2010 graduate of Manhattan High School, Unruh is the son of Greg and Maria Unruh, Manhattan.
