Powercat Financial Counseling now accepting student applications

Submitted by Jodi Kaus

Powercat Financial Counseling is now accepting applications for two student involvement opportunities for the fall 2013 through spring 2014 semesters. Powercat Financial Counseling provides free advice to students on financial issues via individual financial counseling, financial presentations to student groups and educational programming on financial topics.

The first opportunity is for students studying in a financial service-related curriculum to apply for the peer financial counselor positions. Counselors will provide individual counseling and presentations to students after extensive training. Those applying should demonstrate an interest in improving the financial capability of all K-State students and have sufficient time to dedicate fully to this pre-professional internship opportunity. This position requires approximately four to eight hours of commitment a week.

A second opportunity to be involved with Powercat Financial Counseling is by serving as a member of its student advisory board. Board members will be directly involved in the growth of the center and working towards the goal of increasing financial literacy at Kansas State University. This position provides a variety of experience available for those not solely focused on financial services, but with interest in gaining experience in other areas such as event planning, advertising, marketing, public speaking and technology development. The advisory board meets twice a month throughout the academic year.

Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, March 8, in Room 809, office of student activities and services on the ground floor of the K-State Student Union.

Applications can be found on the Powercat Financial Counseling website at http://www.k-state.edu/pfc/about/opportunities.html or can be picked up in the office of student activities and services on the ground floor of the Union.
