Countdown to the 150th: Nearly 100 committee members' efforts over two years to pay off beginning Thursday

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Nearly 100 members of the university family have spent the past two years ramping up for a celebration of Kansas State University's 150th birthday. Those efforts will pay off beginning Thursday. The first event in the sesquicentennial celebration is the kickoff and grand exhibition from 1 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ahearn Field House and the opening of the "Museum of Wonder" exhibition at the Beach Museum of Art. The 150th kickoff program will be shown live at 4 p.m. at k-state.edu/150 and on K-StateHD.TV.

"Committee members represent every college and unit," said Jackie Hartman, chief of staff and director of community relations who is the sesquicentennial committee chair. "There are 13 subcommittees, and these people are volunteering during our events to make it happen. Sharing all of our expertise over the last two years is resulting in a meaningful and dynamic calendar of events to celebrate 150 years of K-State."

Colleges and units are encouraged to integrate the 150th into their own annual efforts. For more information, visit http://www.k-state.edu/150/celebrating.html.
