Modern languages professor presents at international conference

Emma Betz, assistant professor of German linguistics, presented "Managing Relationships in Conversation: Two Uses of Names as Address Terms in Every-day German Interaction" at the International Institute for Ethnomethodology and Conversation Analysis' 2011 conference July 10-14 in Fribourg, Switzerland.

The institute promotes the empirical study of practical action and social interaction. The conference featured different fields and approaches in the study of social action and language use in interaction, e.g., interactional linguistics, membership categorization analysis, gesture analysis, workplace studies, and phenomenological and ethnographic studies.
