K-State's GROW program sponsoring 'All Together for Innovation,' Nov. 17

Submitted by Yasché Glass

Middle school girls in sixth through eighth grades will participate in "All Together for Innovation" from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, on the K-State campus at the College of Arts and Sciences.

The event is sponsored by K-State's Girls Researching Our World program, or GROW. The program is offered through K-State's Advancement of Women and Science in Engineering and introduces middle school girls to science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.

K-State faculty and students from the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine and the College of Engineering will provide hands-on activities that explore innovative ideas, specifically how these new technologies and tests have helped in the detection and treatments for cancer. There will be activities teaching girls about the latest biological and technological advances, from breast cancer and estrogen regulation to nano scales, to cancer detection tests from the chemistry department. This will be an exciting day for middle school girls interested in the latest research and technology.

Registration is $20 per student and $10 per adult/teacher. Each registration includes activities, materials and lunch. Registration is open until Friday, Nov. 9. For additional information, call Yasché Glass at 785-532-6088 or visit the program's website at http://www.k-state.edu/grow.
