Position announcement: Director for the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning

The position of director for the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning is a full-time regular administrative 12-month appointment beginning July 1, 2013.

The director is vital to the center’s mission to inspire and nurture a culture throughout Kansas State University that values teaching and learning. The director will collaborate with university administrators and faculty to develop learning events to improve teaching and learning at K-State and will provide ongoing mentorship for faculty and graduate teaching assistants who seek to improve their courses and teaching. 

The director of Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning will be integral for achieving K-State’s 2025 Visionary Plan, particularly the thematic goals on undergraduate educational and graduate scholarly experiences. The position reports to the associate provost for institutional effectiveness and oversees the operation of Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, which employs a classified administrative assistant, two graduate assistants and student hourly workers.

Specific duties for this position include:

  • Supporting and building upon existing programs designed to ensure faculty and graduate teaching assistant success
  • Overseeing the administration and development of the TEVAL and IDEA Student Ratings Systems
  • Collaborating with other units associated with teaching and curriculum:
    • Office of assessment
    • All eight colleges and faculty councils
    • Division of Continuing Education
    • Information technology services
  • Teaching one section of the Principles of College Teaching course, EDCI 943, in both the fall and spring semesters, www.k-state.edu/catl/edci943

Required qualifications:
Candidates must have a doctorate or a terminal degree from an accredited institution, a demonstrated record of excellent teaching and strong communication skills.

Preferred qualifications:

Preferred candidates are knowledgeable about trends in teaching and learning, including e-learning. Preferred candidates have directed or worked in a successful teaching and learning center and have a record of research in the scholarship of teaching and learning. Preferred candidates are tenured at their current institution or eligible for tenure at K-State.
