Third annual shred day yields 3.8 tons of paper

Submitted by Rebecca Gould

The third annual Shred Day, Oct. 16 on the Manhattan and Salina campuses, was a success. Document Resources Inc. collected 7,620 pounds of paper products – about 3.8 tons – from 34 departments. Papers will be shredded into tiny particles, compressed into large bricks and recycled.

The purposes of Shred Day, conducted each year during National Cyber Security Awareness Month, are to properly dispose of paper containing sensitive information and to raise awareness of the need to protect information on paper.

Departments can contract with Document Resources to collect sensitive papers for shredding rather than wait for the next Shred Day scheduled for October 2013.
