Cindy Bontrager named interim vice president for administration and finance
Cindy Bontrager has been named interim vice president for administration and finance at Kansas State University.
"I am excited for the opportunity," said Bontrager, formerly assistant vice president for budget planning. "I understand that we have challenges to address at K-State, but there are also wonderful opportunities. I look forward to working with the campus as we move toward our goal of being a Top 50 public research university by 2025."
Jackie Hartman, chief of staff and director of community relations, led the search committee.
"We were pleased with the qualified applicant pool and very pleased with the interest the campus community showed for our candidates," Hartman said. "Cindy has the expertise and interpersonal skills to serve us exceptionally well as our vice president for finance and administration."
The committee formed after Bruce Schubert announced his retirement effective Oct. 12.
"Cindy is highly qualified and will do an excellent job," Shubert said. "She has contributed importantly to K-State over the past few years, and I expect great things for her and the university. She is a good friend and colleague with outstanding qualities and values."
Bontrager has been a part of the university for 23 years. She was at Kansas State University in the budget office from January 1989 to April 1998, returning July 2003. She was at the Kansas Board of Regents from July 1998 to July 2003 after a brief stay at the Kansas Department of Insurance. Her annual salary in this interim position is $205,000.
"Kansas State has enjoyed several record-setting years in fundraising and student enrollment, and I am excited to have Cindy join our senior leadership team," said President Kirk Schulz. "She's been a valuable asset to the university, and her expertise will help lead us to our 2025 goals."
