Faculty member conducts training at US national parks

By Ted Cable

Ted Cable, professor of park management and conservation, recently gave keynote addresses and conducted training at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and Grand Canyon National Park.

At Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Cable gave the keynote address at the biannual Hawaii Volcanoes Open Interpretation Training Workshop attended by park rangers, National Park Service administrators, tour operators and tour guides from all of the Hawaiian Islands. Local high school youth who had been chosen to work in park seasonally also attended. Cable conducted training sessions for the participants over the three-day workshop.

At the Grand Canyon, Cable presented the keynote address at the National Park Interpretive Renewal Workshop, which is at the end of every summer season for National Park Service staff and concessionaires at Grand Canyon National Park.
