The vision for Monsanto Vegetable Seed is to contribute to a healthier, balanced diet by helping growers produce tastier, nutritious vegetables. With dedicated efforts in biochemistry, consumer sensory, vegetable quality and nutrition, the Consumer Research and Development team enables breeders and business with discovery and development of fruit and vegetable varieties enhanced in flavor, appeal, convenience, nutrition, health and wellness.

Mein will discuss the current consumer research and development pipeline as well as the science behind varieties such as Beneforté® Broccoli, which contains 2-3 times more of the phytonutrient glucoraphanin.

Mein also will discuss his career path and talk about what he has learned along the way from Girard, Kan., to Kansas State University to Tufts University, to the pharmaceutical industry, to one of the world’s largest agriculture biotechnology companies.
