Vernon Larson International Lecture to be delivered by Donna Schenck-Hamlin of Kansas Paraguay Partners

Submitted by Kathleen Witcher

The Vernon Larson International Lecture, "Kansas Paraguay Partners Collaborative Projects: Service Learning for Citizens," will be delivered by Donna Schenck-Hamlin at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 12 at the Holiday Inn adjacent to the K-State campus. The optional luncheon will begin at 11:45 a.m.

Kansas Paraguay Partners has provided Kansans and Paraguayans opportunities to visit and work with one another on a wide range of development projects. What motivates citizens to volunteer for this bilateral exchange is as much a desire to learn as to serve, with self-reflection being one critical outcome.

Donna Schenck-Hamlin has been a member of Kansas Paraguay Partners since 2003 and chairs the civil society/human rights working group with Alberto Granada of the Comité Paraguay Kansas. She received her education in literature and librarianship at the University of Oregon, earned a degree in musicology at Kansas State University and has worked since 1983 on a wide variety of development projects in agriculture and civil society. Her principle KPP project is to promote the preservation and use of resources in the Center for Documentation and Archives for the Defense of Human Rights at the Supreme Court of Paraguay.

Sponsored by K-State Friends of International Programs and the office of international programs. Please make luncheon reservations with the office of international programs by Friday, April 8, by contacting oip@k-state.edu or 785-532-5990. Get more information at www.k-state.edu/oip.
