Global Campus receives pair of UPCEA Central Region awards

Submitted by Grant Guggisberg

Representatives from Kansas State University received a pair of awards at the 2018 University Professional and Continuing Education Association Central Region conference, Sept. 26-28, in St. Louis.

Huston Gibson, associate professor and director for K-State's community development program, and Sarah Reasoner, program coordinator in the animal sciences and industry department, each received awards at the conference, which aims to promote quality in professional and continuing higher education and support leaders within the industry.

K-State Global Campus nominated both recipients for their work in support of distance students.

Gibson won the Excellence in Teaching award for his work with K-State's online community development program, which offers both a graduate certificate and master's degree. The program is a part of the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance, or Great Plains IDEA, a consortium of Midwest universities, and Gibson directs K-State's program in addition to his work as associate professor in the College of Architecture, Planning & Design's landscape architecture and regional & community planning department.

Reasoner won the Outstanding Support Specialist Award for her role as a creator and facilitator of online courses in the College of Agriculture. She also advises nondegree students in the college and is a valuable resource for students in the college as the in-house expert at navigating the typical issues students face when studying online.
