One Health Newsletter is now online

Submitted by Joe Montgomery

The new issue of the One Health Newsletter, hosted by Kansas State University, is now online. One Health refers to the interconnections between human, animal and environmental health. The newsletter is distributed worldwide to a group of health professionals and scientists.

The theme of this issue is microbiome. Stories cover topics including the implication of antimicrobial compounds and the gastrointestinal microbiome on health and disease; a review on zoonotic enteric parasites; connecting the gut microbiome with response to infectious respiratory disease in humans and pigs; and more.

This newsletter was created to lend support to the One Health Initiative and is dedicated to enhancing the integration of animal, human and environmental health for the benefit of all by demonstrating One Health in practice.

The development of each edition of the One Health Newsletter is guided by a faculty editorial board at Kansas State University that includes Paige Adams, research assistant professor at K-State Olathe; Jean-Paul Gonzalez, deputy director of the Center of Excellence for Emerging and Zoonotic Animal Diseases; and Ellyn Mulcahy, director of the Master of Public Health program. Colleagues from the University of California, Davis and Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania also will participate in the editorial process, with input from invited contributors. Students at these universities will then search for and develop current and late-breaking content based on the guidance of the editorial board and contributors. The goal is to share diverse perspectives on all topics, staying true to the One Health mission.

Contributions from professionals around the globe are welcome and can be submitted at onehealthnewsletter@gmail.com.
