Submitted by Ben Champion

Registration is free for the conference, Adapting to a Changing Climate on the Central Great Plains on Sept. 4 and 5.

The Central Great Plains Climate Education Partnership and Kansas EPSCoR climate adaptation and mitigation program are the conference on the topic of climate change in our region.

The conference will begin on the evening of Sept. 4 with a keynote lecture by Bob Inglis, former U.S. representative from South Carolina and executive director of the energy and enterprise initiative, which is part of the center for climate change communication at George Mason University. The energy and enterprise initiative advocates climate policy based on conservative policy principles rather than those promoted by Democrats.

Activities Sept. 5 will focus on progress and opportunities in interdisciplinary climate change research of K-State and its partners through the Central Great Plains Climate Education Partnership and the Kansas National Scinece Foundation EPSCoR climate change mitigation program.

The conference program will explore the current state of climate science for the Great Plains impacts, adaptation and mitigation options facing the Great Plains communication and education challenges in our region. Plenary speakers, panels and interactive sessions networking opportunities for connecting to the projects as well as other scholars interested in climate change at K-State.

This conference will advance the K-State conversation about climate change, its impacts and our opportunities as a university and higher education community for working in this area. The conference is organized to help forge new relationships and identify new directions for efforts related to climate change.
