Hale Library renovation gets underway May 14

Submitted by Sarah McGreer Hoyt

Exciting changes ahead for Hale Library! Construction begins May 14 on the first floor renovation, which will create the Dave and Ellie Everitt Learning Commons. We hope to have the construction completed during the fall 2018 semester .

During construction, the first floor will be closed, including Einstein's Bros. Bagels and the Anita C. Lehner 24 Hour Study Area.

Hale Library's second through fifth floors will remain open, and our schedule is always available online.

The ground-floor entrance on the south side of the building also will be closed. Visitors will need to access Hale Library via the public entrance at the top of the ramp that starts near the English/Counseling Services Building.

Haven't heard about the renovation? The first-floor Dave and Ellie Everitt Learning Commons will enable and promote the kinds of collaborative, technology-based work so many K-State degrees require.

The renovation will include collaborative rooms for group work and study; an innovation center featuring new technologies such as VR; a cafe; a multipurpose room for meetings, programs, and study; and partner space for tutoring, the writing center and other student services.

Visit our renovation website for more information and to view the conceptual plans, which include direct entrance to the first floor, group study spaces, instruction rooms, satellite meeting spaces for student services, a café and an event space.

The project also will provide a home for digital initiatives such as the Open/Alternative Textbook Initiative as well as a technology center featuring cutting-edge resources that will amplify the quality and visibility of K-Staters' research.

K-State Libraries are dedicated to finding a way to reinstate extended hours at Hale Library. We hope that will be possible by the time the new first floor opens.

Please note, no state or student monies will be used on the new first floor. The renovation will be fully funded by private donor contributions.
