Orientation overview: New student services adds a day for orientation, enrollment

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

An abundance of participation at Kansas State University's June student orientation and enrollment has prompted the university's new student services to add an extra day in August to assist incoming students with enrollment.

While August orientation and enrollment is not uncommon, the number of students participating in this years' session is. A total of 3,740 students and 4,197 parents attended June enrollment, and more students have expressed an interest attending. Therefore a second round of orientation and enrollment is planned for the week of Aug. 13. More than 500 students are expected to attend that enrollment.

"We saw an influx of students in June and preliminary numbers suggest August enrollment will be equally as busy," said Kiley Moody, coordinator of new student services. "The week before school starts will be an exciting time as we welcome the next generation of Wildcats."

International student orientation and enrollment will begin at 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, and run through Sunday, Aug. 19. As a special welcome, international students will be able to explore campus and the Manhattan community throughout the week as well as to participate in a variety of events and services including presentations from campus offices, a resource fair and social events with opportunities to make new friends.

"We are excited to welcome a new group of international students to campus, adding to the more than 1,800 already on campus from more than 100 countries," said Sara Thurston Gonzalez, director of the international student and scholar services.

Orientation and enrollment for transfer students will begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, and Thursday, Aug. 16, and for incoming freshmen at 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 17, both in the K-State Student Union. Students will have the opportunity to select fall courses, meet with an academic adviser, buy textbooks and athletic passes, and get their questions answered.
