Annual Department of Kinesiology scholarship banquet recognizes outstanding students

Students recognized at Department of Kinesiology scholarship banquet

The Department of Kinesiology hosted its annual scholarship banquet on April 16 and recognized 21 undergraduate students. This is the largest number of scholarships the department has ever awarded, which is credited to an increase in private fundraising.

"We had an extremely competitive applicant pool for our scholarships this year, as we have many deserving students in our department," said Craig Harms, department head. "Those that received awards certainly earned them and we’re proud of them."

Scholarship recipients:

  • Mackenzie Getz, junior, Spring Hill, received the Kinesiology Faculty-Ice Family Scholarship.
  • Hanna Bott, junior, Palmer, received the Katherine Horridge Smith Scholarship.
  • Emi Hayashi, junior, Andover, received the Pauline Compton Scholarship.
  • Allison Bullinger, junior, Colwich and Brooke Bennett, junior, Shawnee, received the Mary Lois Rynders Sykes Scholarship.
  • Katie Kralicek, junior, Overland Park, received the Dr. Kenneth Mosely Scholarship.
  • Kiana Schulze, junior, Shawnee, received the Larry Noble Scholarship Fund.
  • Reilly Killeen, junior, Honolulu, Hawaii, received the Ito Family Scholarship.
  • Rachel Haskell, junior, Prairie Village, received the Barbara Moses Scholarship.
  • Jordyn Tuck, sophomore, Erie, received the Eva Lyman Scholarship. 
  • Kelli Stallbaumer, senior, Sabetha, received the American Kinesiology Association Scholar.
  • Alec Butenas, senior, Stilwell, received the Kinesiology Achievement Scholarship. 

Students who received the Kinesiology Excellence Scholarship:

  • Alexandra Aye, junior, Louisburg.
  • Macy Mock, junior, Dodge City.
  • Vanessa-Rose Turpin, senior, Leavenworth.
  • Courtney Moore, junior, Haddam.
  • Mary Morrissey, junior, Topeka.
  • Jena Winkler, sophomore, Wetmore.
  • Paige Salts, junior, Overland Park.
  • Justin McCartney, junior, Salina.
  • Theresa Koch, sophomore, Baileyville.
  • Shayna Karmann, junior, Yates Center.

Seven graduate level students were also recognized during the event:

  • Jesse Stein named Graduate Teaching Assistant of the Year.
  • Jacob Caldwell named Outstanding Graduate Doctoral Student. 
  • Katelyn Gilmore and Dryden Baumfalk were named Outstanding Graduate Master's Student. 
  • Jacob Caldwell and Korynne Rollins were named American Kinesiology Association Scholar.
