Department of animal sciences and industry to host Beef Profit Alliance Conference July 22-24

The department of animal sciences and industry will host a Beef Profit Alliance Conference July 22-24, co-sponsored by the American Red Angus and the American Simmental Associations. Nationally known speakers and cattle evaluation make up the program.

Program topics include: Predicting carcass value on the hoof; Carcass Evaluation demonstration; Communications in the beef cattle industry; How will disease control impact the seedstock business?; Genetic improvement from peas to DNA; American Red Angus and American Simmental Association strategic plan; Profit simplified – the role of economic indexes; Should we database conformation traits?; Profit drivers in the feedyard; Fertility and heterosis; Survive or thrive-The future of breed associations; Can we really blend shows and ERTs?; Cutting costs in cowherds with genetics; Do premium branded beef programs want my cattle?; and So, you aspire to be an elite seedstock producer?.

Two pre-conference tours are also a part of the conference. Joe Mushrush and family will host a red angus evening at the ranch near Strong City. The Kansas Simmental Association has organized a tour to exhibit Simmental cattle at River Creek Farms, Irvine Ranch and K-State Purebred Beef Barns.
