Twelve doctoral students and three faculty members from the hospitality management department attended the 23rd annual Graduate Education and Graduate Student Research Conference in Hospitality and Tourism Jan 3-5 in Fort Worth, Texas.

The conference hosted 274 presentations — 122 stand-up presentations and 152 poster presentations — from universities in the United States, Canada, and beyond that offer graduate programs in hospitality management and tourism.

Of 122 stand-up presentations, 12 were nominated to be considered for four best papers provided by the Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism Research, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Technology and Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing.

Two of six K-State research teams were nominated and received best papers:

Park, E., Chae, B., and Kwon, J. (2018, January) "Applying machine learning and traditional statistics to explore the topical structure of the hospitality and tourism literature" received the Best Paper Award by the Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Technology.

Oh, H., and Jang, J. (2018, January). "Service improvisation as a double-edged sword" received the Best Paper Award by the Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing.

Along with the best paper awards, Junhee Kwon, associate professor of hospitality management, was recognized as one of 10 paper review track chairs who served for the conference.
