Going the extra mile: Faculty, staff recognized for service and commitment to students

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Two Kansas State University employees have earned Putting Students First Awards for outstanding work with students.

The awards recognize faculty and staff, particularly in the Division of Student Life, who go the extra mile in advising, teaching and service to students. Recipients are nominated by peers, supervisors and students.

This year's winners are: Candi Hironaka, senior associate director, School of Leadership Studies; and Jason Maseberg-Tomlinson, assistant director, adaptive technology specialist with the office of disability support services, a part of the office of educational and personal development.

"This award shines a light on the best and brightest of our campus faculty and staff in the Division of Student Life for dedicated service," said Pat Bosco, vice president for student life and dean of students. "I can think of no better way to say thank you on behalf of our students."

Carla Jones, assistant vice president and senior associate dean of student life, leads the Student Life Staff Development Committee, which chooses the recipients of the award.

"These awardees are true champions for students. We are very proud to recognize them in this very special way," Jones said.

Hironaka has served as senior associate director and student, alumni and community relations associate director of leadership studies and programs at the School of Leadership Studies since 2008.

Maseberg-Tomlinson has served his current position since 2010, where he specializes in adaptive technology, accessibility in higher education, content mediation, and student development.
