K-State United Way donations help local families

Submitted by K-State United Way Campaign Committee

Donations through K-State's United Way campaign have helped many local nonprofit organizations.

The Manhattan Emergency Shelter is one of the Konza United Way benefiting organizations. The following is a story from the shelter:

"We had a couple that was living in a U-Haul truck with their two little boys. Shortly after checking into the emergency shelter, the mom decided to address her methamphetamine addiction and went to a detox facility for five days while the boys stayed with dad. The day of her sober return, Santa came to visit the homeless children to hand out toys and candy. When the two boys saw the big man walk through the door, their excitement and laughs brought tears to mom's eyes. The family also has connected with Head Start and Raising Riley for childcare, and is working diligently to transition to their own permanent home."

As of Nov. 17, 237 K-State employees have pledged $63,326 to the United Way campaign, making stories like this possible. Help K-State reach its $100,000 goal by donating through HRIS.
