Fred Hasler, associate professor, architectural engineering and construction science

Fred Hasler, Kansas State University associate professor of architectural engineering and construction science, has been named the recipient of the John W. and Dorothy M. Burke architectural engineering chair.

The chair was established to honor John W. and Dorothy M. Burke on campus, as well as to recruit and retain the highest quality faculty in the College of Engineering. The fund was established by the Burke's son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Elizabeth Burke. John Burke was a 1932 graduate of K-State in architectural engineering.

Hasler holds bachelor's and master's degrees in architectural engineering from Kansas State University. His research interests include lighting design, architectural lighting controls and application of lighting systems in buildings. He serves as the faculty adviser for K-State Illuminating Engineering Society student group, as well as for ASHRAE Student Design Competition winning teams over numerous years.

Project manager and owner of a mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems consulting firm for many types of commercial, institutional and retail buildings, Hasler's certifications include Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional, or LEED AP, and GeoExchange Designer. He is a licensed professional engineer in Kansas and Texas.

"Honoring Fred Hasler with this award is one way our department can single out our outstanding faculty members and express our appreciation for the effort they put forth to produce the next-generation of architectural engineers and construction scientists," said Ray Buyle, department head for architectural engineering and construction science.
