The 2017-18 Hale Concert Series salutes K-State music faculty and an alumna

The first concert of the 2017-18 Hale Library Concert Series, a performance by K-State alumna Deborah Marshall, clarinet, will be Friday, Sept. 22.
Marshall studied with Frank Sidorfsky at K-State. Upon graduation, she traveled to Europe to study on a Rotary International Fellowship. Marshall then lived in Munich for 22 years, where she received her master's in performance from Hochschule für Musik. She played with the Bavarian Radio Orchestra under such maestros as Rafael Kubelik, Sir George Solti, Leonard Bernstein, Ricardo Muti, Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, Leonard Slatkin, Sir Colin Davis, Lorin Maazel and Kurt Masur.
Her playing is known for its expressiveness, virtuosity and beauty of tone. She has recorded for broadcasting corporations in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Russia. She will be accompanied by Nan Shannon, a pianist who earned her doctorate in piano performance from Peabody Conservatory.
The remaining concerts in the 2017-18 series follow:
- Feb. 2: A celebration of David Littrell's years at K-State. Performers will be Littrell, cello, and Amanda Arrington, piano.
- April 20: The solo, chamber and theatrical music of Leonard Bernstein, one of American's most famous musicians, performed by the K-State Music Faculty to commemorate the centennial of Bernstein's birth.
- June 8: Jazz in June with the K-State Jazz Sextet.
All Hale Library Concert Series performances begin at 7:30 p.m. on Hale Library's fifth floor and include wine and dessert at a reception immediately following the concert.
