Reminder: Register for the Military Spouse Appreciation Day Luncheon

Submitted by Briana Goff

The Institute for the Health and Security of Military Families at K-State invites you to the second Military Spouse Appreciation Event from noon to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, at the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art.

K-State students, faculty and staff who are spouses of current military or veterans are welcome to attend this event.

The event will include a complimentary lunch, guest speaker and military spouse recognition. Limited seating is available — please RSVP for the event by May 3

The guest speaker is Lisa Hallett, president and co-founder of wear blue: run to remember. Hallett will share her experience losing her husband, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2009. Creating wear blue: run to remember gave Hallett a healthy outlet for her grief and a path to move forward and support others in the process.

At the event, we will honor two military/veteran spouses from the Flint Hills region who represent "resilience." Recipients of the Resilient Spouse Awards can be current or former military spouses, young or "mature" in age, male, female, etc. Any connection as a military spouse is accepted. Two awards are available; please nominate individuals for the following awards:

  • Community Spouse Award: Any military or veteran spouse who lives in the Flint Hills region and has a current or previous connection to a military service member.
  • K-State Spouse Award: Any military or veteran spouse who is a current student, staff, or faculty member at Kansas State University.
