Animal sciences and industry department head candidate seminars

Submitted by Bethany Cox

Two finalists have been identified to participate in campus interviews for the position of head of the animal sciences and industry department in the College of Agriculture.

Richard Coffey will present to the campus community from 9:30-11a.m. May 1 in the K-State Alumni Center Ballroom.

Coffey is the chair of the animal and food sciences department at the University of Kentucky. He is responsible for leadership and administrative oversight of the department's land-grant missions of teaching, outreach and research. He provides supervisory oversight and evaluation of the department's 37 faculty and 56 professional and support staff and overall fiscal management of an annual operating budget of approximately $9 million. Coffey earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Oklahoma State University and a doctorate from the University of Kentucky. Before becoming department head, Coffey was an extension swine specialist for more than 20 years and, most recently, was director of the University of Kentucky Research and Education Center.

Randel Raub will present to the campus community from 9:30-11 a.m. May 3 in the K-State Alumni Center Ballroom.

Raub is currently the director of research and marketing for U.S. feed operations for Ridley Inc. Raub earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in animal science from the University of Illinois and a doctorate in equine nutrition with a minor in physiology from the University of Kentucky. He held a research and teaching appointment at Kansas State University for 12 years before leading the equine research program and then equine business development for Land O'Lakes-Purina for 10 years before joining Ridley in his current position. His professional interests include nutritional physiology, growth physiology, marketing, management and leadership. He also is recognized as one of the top equine nutritionists in the country.

For those unable to attend in person, both presentations will be streamed live and archived for later viewing. The link will be activated at the time of the forum and posted on the College of Agriculture's website. Also available on the website are application materials and online candidate feedback form for both candidates.
