GLOBE Project chooses entrepreneurship professor Saurav Pathak's research as the 2016 Robert J. House Best Paper Award recipient

Submitted by Brent Fritzemeier

Kansas State University assistant professor of entrepreneurship Saurav Pathak's study, "Beyond cultural values? Cultural leadership ideals and entrepreneurship," was chosen as the recipient of the 2016 Robert J. House Best Paper Award from the GLOBE — Global Leadership and Organizational Behavior Effectiveness — Project.

The award honors an outstanding recent dissertation-based article/paper, or any other published paper on leadership, societal or organizational culture using the GLOBE database, GLOBE research tools, GLOBE leadership or GLOBE culture theory. Manuscript topics could include leadership, organizational behavior, organization theory, strategic management, corporate social responsibility, ethics, or any other organizational relevant topic.

The study was co-authored by Ute Stephan of Aston University in the United Kingdom, and has been published in the Journal of Business Venturing. It introduces cultural leadership ideals as a relevant aspect of culture that explains cross-national differences in entrepreneurship. Cultural leadership ideals describe culturally shared expectations about the attributes, motives and behaviors of outstanding leaders. The study suggests that entrepreneurship will flourish in cultures where cultural leadership ideals closely align with entrepreneurial behaviors — specifically charismatic and self-protective leadership ideals.

As the recipient of the award, Pathak and Stephan will receive a $2,500 cash prize and will be honored at the upcoming GLOBE Annual Meetings.
