From the senior vice provost: Intersession, spring syllabi statements reminder
Dear deans, department heads, faculty and graduate teaching assistants:
Before we wind down the fall term, please take a moment to review the information about course syllabi. Remember to include the mandatory statements in your intersession and spring course syllabi, and please consider including suggested optional statements, if they apply to your course. The website also includes a link to a syllabi template for online courses.
For those faculty who did not teach in fall 2016, please note we included additional language — highlighted text on the website — in the statement on copyright notification, which is in the section on optional syllabi statements, as well as additional information you may wish to provide to your students regarding actions that constitute violation of the Student Code of Conduct. There have been no changes to any of the other syllabi statements — mandatory or optional — since fall 2016.
To assist in your planning, please make sure your exam schedule is up-to-date by reviewing the spring 2017 exam schedule.
All faculty, instructors and graduate teaching assistants should refer to section F70-73 of the University Handbook to make sure they are in compliance with the final exam policy.
Finally, the All-University Open House is scheduled for Saturday, April 1, 2017. As usual, classes will be canceled starting at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 31, 2017. If instances arise where rescheduling in specialized classrooms or laboratory environments is not feasible, or canceling sections of a multisection course would result in the loss of an entire class day, then instructor prerogative will determine whether classes will be canceled. In these cases, faculty members choosing to hold classes at or after 2:30 p.m. must notify Room Scheduling at 785-532-1712 at the start of the spring semester to ensure that their classrooms are available. This determination should be clearly noted on the course syllabus handed out at the beginning of the semester so that students are aware of this far in advance of Open House.
Please contact our office at 785-532-6224 or email@example.com, if you have any questions.
Have a joyful holiday season and a happy new year.

Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
