Scholarships available for studying Hindi

The office of international programs has a scholarship program for studying Hindi.


Hindi is the national language of India, mutually intelligible with Urdu and is widely spoken throughout South Asia. Students with some Hindi proficiency may test into higher levels of the four-course sequence. Completion of the four-course sequence fulfills the bachelor of arts language requirement. For those interested in South Asia, Hindi is one of many courses available across eight K-State colleges with South Asian content.

 

Fifteen $500 scholarships are available for fall 2012. Two classes are offered:

HINDI101 – Hindi I, line schedule No. 15267, introductory of the four semester sequence

HINDI201 – Hindi III, line schedule No. 15268, third of the four semester sequence

 

Criteria:

 

1. Students must be in good academic standing

2. Preference given to degree-seeking K-State students

3. Students must enroll in one of the above Hindi classes to receive the award

 

Procedures:

 

1. Application in writing giving:

a. Name, K-State student ID, major and year level

b. Your qualifications as a student in good standing

c. Very brief expression of your interest in learning the language, including

any previous experience in South Asia or with Hindi

 

2. Deliver application to:

Department of Modern Languages

CAMPUS

 

3. Awards will be given by the office of international programs by posting the amount to

awardees’ K-State iSIS accounts at the beginning of the fall semester.

4. Application deadline is May 14.
