Communicating Your Research to the Public workshop presented today

By Kelsey Peterson

communicating your research to the public

The Graduate Student Council is hosting a professional development workshop, Communicating Your Research to the Public, for graduate students from 1-2:30 p.m. Oct. 5 in the Cottonwood Room of the K-State Student Union.

Brent Weaver, interim assistant director of outreach, and Cydney Alexis, both from the Writing Center at K-State, will lead the seminar.

Explaining your research or scholarly work to individuals who are not experts in your field can be more challenging than you might expect. Concepts and terms that are everyday language for you may sound foreign to a broader audience. Having the ability to effectively communicate your work to nonexperts is especially important when that audience consists of members of local, regional, or national government and when your work has implications for the decisions being made by those individuals. In this session you will develop skills for communicating your research in a poster format to a nonexpert audience.

Refreshments will be served. Registration is available online

This is the third professional development workshop of the fall 2016 semester. K-State graduate students and postdocs who attend at least five professional development events hosted by the Graduate Student Council during the 2016-2017 academic year will be recognized with a Graduate Student Council Professional Development Certificate. Learn more about the Graduate Student Council professional development workshops and forums.
