Traffic update: Kansas Department of Transportation makes lane, traffic flow changes on K-18

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

The following is an update on the Kansas Highway 18 project from the Kansas Department of Transportation.

Eastbound and westbound K-18 traffic is now head-to-head in the existing eastbound K-18 lanes from Ogden east to Seth Child Road in Manhattan. K-18 traffic will remain in this configuration until mid-November. Note: Scenic Drive traffic now only has right in, right out access to K-18; all left turns are prohibited at the interchange.

K-18 access to and from Miller Parkway and Davis Drive is now closed. Miller Parkway will reopen in November 2012 via use of the westbound ramps with right in, right out movements only. Davis Drive will reopen in fall 2013 when the new interchange is completed.

Traffic patterns have also changed for drivers traveling to and from the Manhattan Regional Airport. Traffic exiting the Manhattan Regional Airport to eastbound/westbound K-18 will now follow a marked detour via existing K-18 to the K-114 intersection. These traffic movements will be in place until mid-November.

Drivers should expect delays during peak travel times and should use alternate routes if possible. Updated traffic information for this project is available at: http://www.ksdot.org/topekaMetro/projectstudyNEKS.asp.

These closures are for construction work on the overall improvement project that will reconstruct a seven-mile stretch of K-18 from Manhattan to Ogden to a freeway when completed. There are three construction phases included in the overall K-18 improvement project.
