Managing Difficult Conversations session offered July 13

Submitted by Human Capital Services-Learning and Development

Managing Difficult Conversations, WTD51, will be offered from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, in the KSU Foundation building's Wildcat Room. This session is open to all K-State employees.

Many of us view confrontation and conflict as negative and something to be avoided. However, with skills and practice we can feel confident engaging in difficult conversations. This interactive presentation is designed to increase your confidence and skills in effective communication about difficult workplace situations. This two-hour session will include information, discussions, role plays and other interactive activities.

By the end of the training, participants will be better able to:

  • Identify their own fears/discomfort with confrontation or conflict.
  • Understand active listening skills and barriers to effective communication.
  • Differentiate between assertive and aggressive communication, as well as formulate an effective assertion message.
  • Role-play how to effectively apply the communication skills covered and how to process reactions/issues that arise.

To register for this session, you can either sign up through HRIS self-service or send an email to Samantha Roberts at learning-develop-hr@k-state.edu. When sending an email, please include your name, employee ID and the course title.
