College of Business Administration professors' research receives best paper honors for upcoming Academy of Management Conference

Submitted by Brent Fritzemeier

A pair of faculty members in the Kansas State University College of Business Administration have received best paper honors in the entrepreneurship category from the upcoming Academy of Management Annual Meeting.

The paper, "An Institutional-Level Expectancy Model of Social Entrepreneurship Motivation," was authored by Marne Arthaud-Day, associate professor of management, and Saurav Pathak, assistant professor of entrepreneurship, along with Etayankara Muralidharan of MacEwan University.

Their research draws on two prevailing theories of entrepreneurial activity — expectancy theory and institutional theory — to develop an integrated model of social entrepreneurship motivation. The researchers pair the three pillars of the institutional environment, cognitive, normative and regulatory, with the corresponding components of the expectancy model — expectancy, valence and instrumentality — and then utilize these theoretical pairings to select context-specific indicators for each environmental dimension.

Because it was selected as one of the best papers submitted to the conference in the entrepreneurship category, the research will be published in the Proceedings of the 2016 Academy of Management Meeting, which will take place Aug. 5-9 in Anaheim, California. The proceedings will be published in an online format, including abstracts of all papers and symposia presented at the conference and abridged versions of the "Best Papers" accepted for inclusion in the program — approximately 10 percent.
