Rural Grocery Summit approaching to help strengthen stores and communities

Submitted by Lauren Swirbul

The Center for Engagement and Community Development and Kansas State University will host the third national Rural Grocery Summit, June 5-6 in Manhattan at the Hilton Garden Inn. The Rural Grocery Summit is an extension of the center's Rural Grocery Initiative, which works to strengthen rural grocery stores and their communities.

"The Rural Grocery Initiative and the Rural Grocery Summit have become the ‘go to’ sources of the latest and best information regarding rural grocery stores and rural food access,” said David Procter, the center's director. “Our third national summit will attract hundreds of people from all across the United States. We are very excited to bring this important conference to Manhattan and Kansas State University."

The summit will cover various topics, such as the latest research on grocery ownership models, funding opportunities for rural food retail, best grocery practices from around the country and how to use the summit’s resources for future success. The Rural Grocery Summit will provide storeowners and resource providers an opportunity to network and share experiences with a diverse group of stakeholders.

Local and national companies have the opportunity to sponsor the summit. Sponsorship will allow companies to promote themselves to conference participants and highlight their products and services. Sponsorship opportunities range from $250-$5,000.
