Third annual MoMorial concert tonight

Submitted by Audrey Taggart-Kagdis

Most solemn moments are acknowledged with a moment of silence, but tonight Delta Sigma Phi, Alpha Delta Pi and the Union Program Council will do the exact opposite. They will be honoring a brother with a concert.

The third annual MoMorial, a benefit concert honoring Mo Meyer, a brother of Delta Sigma Phi who died in a car accident Nov. 17, 2008, will be from 6-10 p.m.

Russell Buchanan, Delta Sigma Phi member who was a friend of Meyer’s since high school, started the event two years ago and it has been growing ever since. This year it is part of the K-State Family Day events.

“It was important for us to have a family-friendly atmosphere so everyone could come and enjoy the music,” Buchanan said. “Anderson lawn is going to be the perfect place for it; it’s the first time I know of a concert being there.”

Admission is free with purchase of a $15 T-shirt or individual tickets can be bought for $5. T-Shirts and tickets will be on sale in the K-State Student Unio, or available the day of the concert. Proceeds will go to AIDS/HIV research in Meyer’s native South Africa.

“We really wanted it to benefit a cause that would both mean a lot to Mo, and really make a difference,” said Joe Falter, Delta Sigma Phi philanthropy chair.

Performing at MoMorial 2011 will be K-State student Ariel Sinha, Chase Horseman, Hutchinson natives O'Handsome Navigator, OPUS winners Catch Amy and Kansas City band Atlas.
