Women's basketball team sends off five seniors Saturday night

Submitted by Sarah Laha

The women's basketball team will conclude its regular season schedule on Saturday night, as they host Texas Tech in the home finale on Senior Night. The Wildcats will look to end their home schedule with a win for the fourth time in the last five seasons. Fans can take advantage of a Wildcat Weekend by bringing their men’s basketball ticket from Saturday afternoon’s game to purchase a general admission ticket to the women’s game for just $3. To purchase tickets, please contact the K-State Athletics ticket office at 800-221-CATS or visit www.kstatesports.com/tickets.

Prior to the game, at 5:45 p.m., K-State will honor its five seniors on the roster: Branshea Brown, Jalana Childs, JuliAnne Chisholm, Tasha Dickey and Emma Ostermann. This senior class has combined for 77 wins, two NCAA Tournament appearances and five Academic All-Big 12 honors. Brown and Childs are the lone four-year letterwinners, while Chisholm and Ostermann joined the program in 2010 and Dickey came to Manhattan in summer 2011.

Saturday night’s game will be broadcast on Kansas Now 22, as Brian Smoller and former K-State letterwinner Missy Heidrick call the action. This will be the 160th K-State women’s basketball game to be broadcast on television. K-State holds an all-time record of 98-61 (.616) in televised games.

The game will also be available on the K-State Sports Network and for free at www.kstatesports.com, as Matt Walters handles the play-by-play and former Wildcat letterwinner Kristin Waller handles the color analysis.

K-State will look to shake off the effects of a two-game skid, as the Wildcats fell on Wednesday at Iowa State, 57-33. The 33 points were the fewest scored by the Wildcats in the Deb Patterson era and the fewest since scoring 33 on Jan. 8, 1993, at Colorado.

The Wildcats had two players reach double figures on Wednesday night, as Dickey and Childs combined for 21 points. Dickey carded a team-high 11 points which all came in the first half. For the second straight game, the product of Sandy, Utah, connected on a career-high tying three 3-point field goals. Over the last five games, Dickey is averaging 13.0 points per game and 2.2 connections from beyond the arc.

Childs, for the 22nd time this season, reached double figures with 10 points. The forward from Orlando, Fla., is averaging 15.3 points per game in the last six games. By taking the floor on Wednesday night, Childs has now played in 126 career games and is tied for 10th in school history in games played.

Following Saturday night’s game, the Wildcats will travel to Kansas City for the 2012 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women’s Basketball Championships. K-State, which is guaranteed a first round bye, will play on Thursday in Municipal Auditorium. For ticket information, visit www.big12sports.com or contact Ticketmaster.
