Starrett selected to Academy of Civil Engineers

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Steve Starrett, associate professor of civil engineering, has been elected a member of the Missouri University of Science & Technology Academy of Civil Engineers. Academy membership is composed of graduates of the school's civil, architectural and environmental engineering department who are outstanding in their field, leaders in community affairs and worthy of emulation.

Starrett received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Missouri University of Science & Technology in 1989 and his master's and doctoral degrees from Iowa State University. He will accept this honor at his alma mater during the new member induction ceremony April 21-22 in Rolla, Missouri.

"Most inductees are elected nearly after a complete career, so this is an extra honor to be elected midcareer," Starrett said.

Since joining K-State as an associate professor in 1994, he has served in various roles such as director of the civil engineering undergraduate program and director of the Honor and Integrity System.

Starrett is the president-elect of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute of American Society of Civil Engineers and has served as an expert witness in numerous legal cases.
