K-State Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony perform tonight

By Don Linn

The Kansas State University Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony will present a special performance at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, in McCain Auditorium. The concert is free. Special guest trumpet soloist Jack Brndiar from the Cleveland Orchestra will be featured with both ensembles.

The Wind Symphony will begin the concert with works by Dello Joio, Wagner, and Ticheli. Brndiar will solo with the ensemble on Clifon Williams' "Dramatic Essay."

The Wind Ensemble will conclude the concert with a mix of classic concert band works and new works for winds. The Wind Ensemble will perform the works of Saint Saens, Reed, Lane, and Walczyk. Brndiar will solo with the ensemble on Herbert L. Clarke's classic cornet solo, "From the Shores of the Mighty Pacific."

The Wind Ensemble is conducted by Frank Tracz and the Wind Symphony is conducted by Don Linn. Both groups feature top student musicians in the K-State band program.
