Join CADS for a listening session with USDA chief scientist

Submitted by Sarah McGreer Hoyt

The USDA has developed a public access policy in response to the Office of Science and Technology Policy Public Access memo. USDA Chief Scientist Catherine Wotecki is hosting listening sessions on the agency's policy, and they are accepting comments on the policy through Dec. 9.

K-State faculty and researchers are welcome to join the Center for the Advancement of Digital Scholarship, or CADS, at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, in 118 Hale Library as they host Wotecki's webinar on how the policy impacts scientific data.

The public also can submit comments in writing by either emailing them to USDAresearchaccess@nifa.usda.gov or mailing them to:

United States Department of Agriculture
National Institute of Food and Agriculture c/o Paul Tanger, Institute of Food Production and Sustainability
1400 Independence Avenue SW, Stop 2240
Washington, D.C. 20250-2201

Comments will be accepted through Wednesday, Dec. 9.

The USDA's public access policy is in response to the OSTP Public Access memo that directed federal agencies with more than $100 million in Research and Development expenditures to develop plans to make the published results of federally funded research freely available to the public within one year of publication and requiring researchers to better account for and manage the digital data resulting from federally funded scientific research.
