Konza Prairie

K-State Libraries' Richard L.D. and Marjorie J. Morse Department of Special Collections is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Konza Prairie Biological Station with a new exhibit: The Konza Prairie: Earth, Wind, and Fire! 1971-2011.

The exhibit highlights the unprecedented history of the station and its extraordinary accomplishments in research, education and conservation of native grasslands. The exhibit also pays tribute to those individuals and institutions who helped establish the world-class ecological research facility: Katherine Ordway, Lloyd Hulbert, the Division of Biology and the Nature Conservancy.

Items on display include historical material from the university archives, beautiful photographs of the Konza Prairie courtesy of photographer Edward Sturr, and prairie artifacts from the Konza Environmental Education Program and the Friends of the Konza Prairie, including a bison hide and a big bluestem grass sample that nearly brushes the gallery ceiling.

The exhibit, located on Hale Library's fifth floor, is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday until Dec. 23. Questions about the exhibit or requests for weekend or evening tours for groups can be directed to Tony Crawford.
