SafeZone advanced trainings: 'Examining Your Allyship' and 'Helping Students in Distress'

Submitted by Anna Waugh

On Tuesday, Nov. 17, SafeZone will offer two advanced workshops.

"Helping Students in Distress" will be from 1-2:30 p.m. in 9 Fairchild Hall. In this interactive workshop, Scott Jones, assistant dean of the Office of Student Life, will walk participants through an online simulation looking at a classroom of college students. Jones will discuss common crises that affect students, presenting symptoms of distress, and practical tools in which to help students.

"Examining Your Allyship" will be from 3:30-5 p.m. in 111 Bluemont Hall. The workshop, facilitated by Jessica Haymaker and Jenna Tripodi, coordinators of the Center for Advocacy, Response and Education, and Aliah Mestrovich Seay, extension specialist, will focus on anti-oppression that encourages audiences to be reflective about their own bias and how we can improve our allyship to marginalized communities.
