Rolley receives National ASLA Outstanding Service Award

Submitted by Courtney Boman

The American Society of Landscape Architecture honored Stephanie Rolley, professor and department head of landscape architecture and regional & community planning, with the Outstanding Service Member Award Nov. 8.

Rolley was recognized as an outstanding member for her work completed through the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board from 2010-2015. She became chair of the board at the beginning of 2015 during a crucial transition period for the board.

As chair, she assisted with the process of hiring a new accreditation manager; took the leadership in preparing the 2015 President's Council meeting; guided the board through the implementation of a new annual reporting process required of accredited programs; and helped prepare the board's response to a recent Council on Higher Education Accreditation review. Rolley also initiated several ideas toward providing support and improving communication between the board, its sister organizations, and the many academic institutions offering accredited degrees.

"Stephanie has been, through all of her years of service to the American Society of Landscape Architecture, as a member of the board of trustees, a member of the Council on Education, a member of Roster of Visiting Evaluators, and for the past six years representing educators on the Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board, a strong and effective voice for the landscape architecture education community," said Kristopher Pritchard, the board's accreditation and education programs manager.

Rolley received the award at the American Society of Landscape Architere's annual meeting and expo in Chicago. The society's trustees, committee and Professional Practice Networks chairs and members, representatives and other volunteers currently involved in the work of the society at the national level are eligible for the award.

"Stephanie's leadership with Landscape Architectural Accreditation Board this past year, during a period of transition, has been exemplary and in many ways transformative," Pritchard said. "She has set the board on a course to be a much more data-driven organization, one that is better prepared to assemble and share information with a variety of constituents, and to guide the community of academic practitioners toward advancing educational practice on a national, and increasingly global, scale."
