Submitted by Gabriela Diaz de Sabates

Students and lecturer

Verónica Martínez Estrada, professor at the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey, or ITESM, Querétaro campus, spent last week at K-State, invited by Gabriela Díaz de Sabatés in women's studies.

Estrada's visit was supported with funds from the College of Arts & Sciences and the women's studies department. During her visit, she discussed the socio-political realities that indigenous and blue-collar women confront in her state of Querétaro, and how their continued leadership and activism has transformed the political map of the state and effected modifications in its laws. She also met with College of Arts & Sciences faculty, Alianza’s president and members of the study abroad office.

Estrada's visit happens within the context of an Experimental International Incentive Grant, "A Transnational Approach to Gender, Culture, and Migrations," that involves short-term co-teaching in collaboration with faculty from prestigious universities in Latinoamérica and Europe, such as University Carlos III in Madrid, Spain; University of Mendoza in Argentina; and University of San Francisco in Quito, Ecuador; in addition to the ITESM, in Querétaro, Mexico.
