Submitted by Olivia Blanco

A paper by Kingsley Olibe, associate professor of accounting, has been selected by the Academy of Global Business Advancement to receive the 2012 Best Paper Award in the accounting track.

In addition, the academy's board of trustees has selected him to receive is 2012 Distinguished Scholar Award at the upcoming World Congress in the United Arab Emirates.

Olibe’s paper, "Assessing Investors’ Abilities to Assimilate International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) Earnings Announcements," tests if U.S. investors are able to interpret and use these reports in making trading decisions of UK listed firms. Olibe found that U.S. markets do use IFRS earnings in their valuation of UK firms.

Olibe teaches financial accounting and accounting theory. He has been published in many journals, including the Journal of International Accounting, Auditing and Taxation and Managerial Auditing Journal.
