Submitted by Mary Rankin

A team of eight computing and information sciences students from the Kansas State University Cyber Defense Club took first place at a cyber defense competition Oct. 24, hosted in conjunction with the eighth Central Area Networking and Security workshop at the University of Arkansas, Little Rock.

Six teams from universities in Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri and Tennessee competed to prove their skills in various areas required to defend against cyber threats. These included repairing and defending a simulated corporate network, creating password security and complexity rules, and crafting social media policies.

Team members are James Howz, captain; Richard Petrie, Matt Traudt, Chandan Chowdhury, Christopher Cook, Logan Prough, Dylan Ball and Caleb Fleming.
